About Us

Iowa Retired School Personnel Association has been helping retired school personnel since 1947. IRSPA is the only organization working primarily to protect and improve the financial benefits of Iowa's retired school personnel. We are affiliated with the National Retired Teacher Association (NRTA).

The National Retired Teachers Association (NRTA) was founded by Dr. Ethel Percy Andrus in 1947. Eleven years later she founded AARP. Both organizations are helpful to older Americans. Dr. Andrus’ mission statement is “To Serve and not to be Served.”

IRSPA was originally called the Iowa Retired Teachers Association. In 19??, we changed our name to include all employees (School Personnel) so that our organization can be a wide-based group. We have over 5,900+ members in 47 units across the state.

How IRSPA Works for You
IRSPA is a professional organization of dedicated volunteer members who keep you in touch with issues of significance to retired school personnel.

IRSPA is dedicated to serving the membership by providing communications, a quarterly newsletter, membership support and unity support. Much attention is given to legislative leadership and lobbying efforts on behalf of issues affecting all retired school personnel.

There is an annual state meeting and six district meetings as well as networking with other organizations for the shared benefit to all.

Membership in IRSPA affords you the chance to join your fellow retirees in local activities, worthwhile projects, fellowship in regular meetings, plus the opportunity to maintain your professional contacts and to develop new ones.

We invite YOU to invest in your future and all Iowa RSPA members.
